There's a term in literary theory called 'intertextuality', which has to do with the interrelationship between texts that have influenced a writer to create a work or the reader to understand a particular piece of writing. The case of Fimbria's album 'Eternal Return' is one in which the artist uses his influences to create something unique.
Fimbria is the solo electronic project of American-born composer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Brian Castriota (earlier composing as 'Earth First') who released a 5-track EP 'Northern Winds' in 2014 on FMT Recordings. His music bears influences from the more wistful moments of The Radio Dept. as well as new age and electronic music pioneers, such as Suzanne Ciani, Harold Budd, John Kerr, and Enya.
In 'Eternal Return' Brian worked meticulously to assemble and combine a particular palette of synthesizers: the lush pads and leads of the Juno-106, the breathiness of the M1, and the Gregorian chants of the VP-330. The album has been described as the soundtrack to "the last few shots of a movie that had a pretty unhappy ending, one of those achy coda endings that's mildly hopeful but it just seems that way relative to how grim the conclusion was in the penultimate scene."
It is officially released today on Cadent Records, a label co-operated by Brian Castriota and Ethan Wells (Ebn Ezra), who both have a sense that their music belongs to and comes from another time and place, hence their fondness for Romantic painting, early MIDI- and voltage-controlled synthesizers, and megalithic earthworks.
The painting by 19th-century German painter Caspar David Friedrich on the cover adds to the overall feel of the album. It is entitled 'Evening Landscape With Two Men' and Brian explains its purpose: "I like the ambiguity of it - the relationship portrayed, whose perspective it's from, and whether they're looking at a sunrise, sunset, or nuclear explosion."
'Eternal Return' is a multifaceted album and invites the listener to effortlessly dive into its various layers of depth again and again.

True I.T.C. are an electronic pop duo formed in Bergen, Norway in 2013 by John Olav Nilsen and Eirik Vestrheim. FP2T is happy to premiere their third single 'Please Don't Die', which is out now on Beko Disques. Through seemingly smooth synth lines and vocals the duo have managed to create a powerful track proving that true beauty sometimes lies in simplicity.
Chrisfamiliar and Death in Saturn worked together in Miami based band Kodiak Fur. The product of the time they spent together is 'Crystal', a mesmerizing electronic track which is Chrisfamiliar's first release as a solo producer. Their approach to production is minimal and most of this was recorded with a headphone mic. There were additional drum edits done by Steven Sanz. While they are planning on releasing a few more collaborations by the end of the year, Death in Saturn recently released a debut EP called 'A Loss Of Blood', which has a darker synthwave touch. Hailing from Norway Musique Le Pop's members are producers and songwriters Christoffer Schou, Jon Kristian Furuheim and Elisabeth Thorsen. The trio has for many years collaborated in different projects, like Remington Super 60 and Safariari,
but wanted to combine forces in a more focused way, and the result is Musique Le Pop. Their music combines different genres, like twee, 60s pop, dance music and indie. They have just released a new single 'Same About You', which was recorded in a small house in Finnmark (as far north as it is possible to get in Norway), where the band’s lead singer Elisabeth’s family originally is from – she is half Sápmi (Norwegian native) herself. The band, which is normally based in the south of Norway, went there to find inspiration and create new songs. While staying in Finnmark, the band binge-watched 'Twin Peaks' every night. Inspired by Julee Cruise’s haunting vocals that are omnipresent in the show, the band decided to make a song with the same vibe, and the result is 'Same About You'. RHEYA is the solo electronic project of a Swedish artist who keeps his identity well hidden. However, he fails to do the same with his music talent. Last year he made his debut with his EP UNION and yesterday he dropped a new song off his upcoming EP expected later in the summer.
